RX8 Bits & Bobs

I have just fitted some RX8 alloys to my car and was wondering what else from an RX8 will bolt straight onto an MX5. I know the anti roll bars (sway bars) fit, but was wondering if things like brakes, suspension, wish bones etc... were compatible?

Not exactly in the same vein as suspension/brake bits, but if you have a donor RX-8 available I'd grab the wiper switch pronto and substitute it for the one on your NC.

I thought I had the wiper switch the other day, as an almost-local wrecking yard had an RX-8 on the premises. But when I arrived to claim my prize they had already sold the front clip, including the steering column and switches.

The variable intermittent wiper switch, is the same as used on several other Mazda's like the Mazda 3 and 6. I believe there are several past threads on this. I think the MX-5 is probably the only Mazda without the variable intermittent wipers... go figure.

while we are on this topic, how about AFTERMARKET parts for RX8 stuff that already fits the mx5?

is it safe to assume they will fit the mx5 as well? as in, an Endless brake kit for the RX8, or Cusco sway bars, etc?

Already done that one Looking for something a little more challenging this time. RX8's have been around for a lot longer than the NC, so aftermarket bits, like coilover kits and big brake kits are more readily available on the second hand market, just need to know what I can and can't buy...

Keep them coming

I have a 19mm RX8 aftermarket rear bar, works great, I forget which brand, but yes the bars will work AFAIK.

The steering wheel and pedals will fit. Later RX-8s have the same wheel as the MX-5, and the Mazdaspeed aluminum pedals are sold for both cars.

Anyone know for sure if suspension (stock/aftermarket) will fit?

I have aftermarket RX8 sways on our NCs....and RX8 hubs....and our RX8 big brake kits on the front, and RX8 two-piece rotors for the rear with RX8 rear calipers.

Are the RX8 hubs better than the Miata hubs? How are they different?

Purely a guess ... they are generally wider? I'm putting an RX7 16x8 set on mine next spring. At that size, the first generation with very hollowed out hubs was only 13 lbs! History of cracking but should be ok for most daily driving. I am getting the slightly newer reinforced version at 16 lbs. Still they will add 1.5 inches of width for only about a pound over my OEM weight.

So it's kinda like adding a spacer... only stronger.

Someone is considering a Coilover kit from the RX8 in another thread.

They are stronger. Brian Goodwin put them on his supercharged NC for that reason. You can probably find the post if you hunt around here:

http://www.mazdatalkforum.com/viewforum.php?f=10

Or maybe Brian himself will chime in.

That's right, the RX8 hub is more substantial. Nobody needs more substantial hubs for street use. Nobody really needs more substantial hubs for average stock class autocross or track work. But those racing with massively upgraded suspensions with much more rubber on the ground can likely use the hub upgrade. Thus, I still have stock hubs on NC LIGHT. But we use the upgraded RX8 hubs on our Cosworth autocross NC because of the load on the hubs that we get with the setup on that car (18x10 wheels with Hoosier 285/30/18 A6 tires, etc.).

Adding a spacer does not make your wheel wider, it only moves it away from the car. For wider tires you need wider wheels. For a wider wheelbase you need to move the centerline of whatever wheels out.

Hubs. Not wheels or wheel spacers.

Are the RX8 hubs the same size as Miata hubs, or are they bigger?

They bolt right in...no change in spacing. They are slightly more stout, slightly more beefy bearing, housing, etc.

Does anyone use the Progress Technology RX8 anti-roll bars? They don't sell a MX5 specific set.
