For some Alexa use cases (such as streaming) Alexa will report:

"Current data connection doesn't support streaming media. When it's safe to do so choose a different Connection in the Wi-Fi client settings."

I understand that. It will work if you connect the car to a phone's internet hotspot and set the car's WiFi client settings appropriately.

But, for an unrelated reason, I recently subscribed to the AT&T connected car service. I would have thought that, in addition to providing a hotspot, it would also provide an appropriate data connection for Alexa (for steaming audio, for example). It does not appear to work that way, and reports the above message.. Or I'm missing something in a setting somewhere?

If anyone has Alexa streaming working with the AT&T internet connection, please let me know, and what settings you're using.

Hey all, I wanted to know if anyone else has ran into this issue before, and if so, how to fix it.

Every time I open/close the driver door with the window all the way up and the soft top closed, the corner of the window hits the soft top and over time will damage the stitching, which I’d hate to happen. I’m not sure if this is the original soft top, but it shows some age which leads me to believe it possibly is. Not sure if there’s a way to “mold” the soft top into shape, perhaps with some head and a little persuasion? I’m really not sure. I’ll attach a photo showing where it gets caught. (Top right corner of the photo)

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I am selling my 2016 ND Club. Koni sport shocks, Flyin-Miata front sway bar, and Hawk street pads and new rotors in the last year and a half. The car has 134424 miles, this was my daily commuter car for the last 3.5 years, purchased with 71k miles. Mostly highway miles, 62 each way to work and back. Has been maintained and runs very well, and still gets 34mpg on the highway. Has an V-5 transmission. Always Mobile 1 and Mazda filters. I have removed the trunk liner and have an Enkie 16 inch wheel and tire that will fit over the Brembo rotors and still fit in the trunk as a spare. Also have a spare BBS wheel and tire.
The front spoiler was removed after being broken. As can be seen in the pictures the bumper cover has had a rough life, but not as bad as the Raccoon and baby wild pig that did the damage. Windshield is cracked, and has the typical delamination on the Touch Screen display. Top has what I think is typical wear. Tried to show this in the pictures, not trying to hide its “warts”. Asking $11,000.00

2016 MX-5 Club Brembo BBS ceramic Metallic

Koni Sport shocks less that 2 years old
Flyin Miata rear bump stops, blue stripe (best of my recollection)front bump stops from Goodwin racing.
Flyin Miata front sway bar
Hawk brake pads and new rotors all around less than 2 years old
Spare tire, and Spare BBS wheel and tire
Tires aren’t new, but at least half life.

A lot of fun for the money!
Asking $11,000.00

Looking to sell my Desmond Regamaster Evo II's in Satin Gunmetal. Specs are 17x8 +38. Currently on Falken Azenis RT660 in 215/45/17. Located in Union County NJ.

I bought these new in late 2021, ceramic coated, and put about 3200 miles on them. These were never driven in the winter or tracked. Car is garage kept and street driven. As far as I am aware, wheels are in near perfect condition. Tires should be healthy as well and still have some life.

Wheels are currently on the car, but aiming to have them off by November. At that point, I clean them up and can grab more pictures, and also probably address the state of the tires. Only looking to sell to fund other wheels.

Looks like these go for ~$3150 through ICB right now, before shipping. Looking for $2900 at the moment, which includes tires. Not willing to ship at the moment.

Thanks!

Photos, more to come

to knock out a few items Ive installed a coolant reroute kit, an inline thermoswitch kit for the fans, new relay, new thermoswitch, new water pump, hoses replaced, radiator will be replaced in the next week or so.

Currently the car will get up to temp perfectly fine but will overheat before the fans kick on. Ive confirmed the relay is working properly by manually grounding the connection to the thermoswitch but not when the car heats up. Ive properly burped the system multiple times over and over to make sure there is no air in it.

This is all at a standstill in my garage with the door open and fans circulating the air in the garage. I'm under the assumption that the car should be able to stay cool without needing to be moving.

any help will be appreciated as I'm slowly losing my mind chasing this issue lol

So in my never-ending quest to have some nice headlights, I scored a set from eBay of all places. I picked this one because it is from the European market, or at least not from the USDM. The difference I knew about was the headlight dippers. They come with a cabin switch that drops the headlight aiming if you have a bunch of stuff in the trunk weighing the rear down (correct me if I am wrong).

Not too worried about hooking that up, but I did notice another bulb that goes into the high-beam area:

Wow, that is absolutely filthy and should have cleaned it before taking a photo. Just pulled it out the box about 20 minutes ago.

Looks like there is a socket, and the wires run to a plug under the turn signal to a connector, then to the assumed main harness. Would this have been a daytime running light? It doesn't seem to be aimed in any particular direction. Could use the reflector housing of the high beam which makes sense.

Anyways, off to do some digging. My driver headlight has a broken tab and I don't like any of the aftermarket lights. My plan on this one is to bake it apart and paint the chrome like the Mazdaspeeds, and also do a proper clear job with this 2K paint for headlights. I hear I don't need to go full polish on them, that going to 800 would be good enough? A slight haze, then the spray will fill and clear?

I’ve owned my 2006 GT 6sp Auto for a few months now. I’ve done a transmission fluid service and spark plugs recently. I’ve just noticed an odd quirk with the transmission that I didn’t notice before, and I’m unsure if it’s normal or if I have a problem.

My auto trans is acting like a clutch is being pressed when I let off the throttle. It doesn’t matter what gear it’s in, when going anything less than 40mph, the RPMs will immediately go to idle and then pick back up the moment you press the accelerator again. When getting off the throttle at higher speeds, the RPMs will instantly drop 500-800 and then will pick up with any amount of throttle input. In effect, there is no engine braking and at speeds of 25-30mph, it’s actually quite annoying because these speeds require small adjustments in throttle and it’s constantly going from idle to 1500 RPM.

Is this normal and I just didn’t notice it before? I’ve since cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body as well as done a throttle body reset. Should the automatic transmission be freewheeling? When slowing down with no throttle input, it will change gears but it stays at idle. I’m used to transmissions being locked after they change gears and having the RPMs match. I have not noticed or detected any obvious vacuum leaks.

Typically it feels super safe around here with light traffic and polite drivers so I was surprised that everyone on the road around dinnertime yesterday was crazy. I'm just taking my dog to a park 5 miles away and:

3 different vehicles brake and come to a dead stop on a 55 mph 2 lane, with no turn signal? One took their sweet time trying to decide if a farm stand was still open. Shopping from the highway. Hah, I won't fall for it and try to pass.

Then I get behind a stop sign runner. Not uncommon to see folks run stop signs in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately I was behind them so could not tell if they were LOL like others I've seen. Hah, no problem.

Then I get someone waving me to go before them at a 4-way stop. Being from Chicago it freaks me out since that never happens and now nobody knows whose turn it is (never a problem in Chicago). Hah, I've learned to just accept the invitation and go.

Then the real test, approaching a 4 way stop where both roads are 55 mph 2 lane. I'm just braking for the intersection when I see a white S-class approach at speed with what looks like a lion with sunglasses driving straight into the sun and likely to their beach house since we're a mile from Lake Michigan. They late brake as they pass the stop sign at 25-30 mph, still braking but now 2 S-class lengths past the stop sign so do I go through the intersection or are they about to punch it and declare they've already stopped since they slowed down more than they wanted to? It worked out fine but I don't like it when you can't even tell if another driver is being rude or just clueless...both are bad for me.

5 or 6 WTF's in 20 minutes of driving?!

I know these are no interference motors. Is this just replacing the timing belt and all that goes with the kit (water pump, gaskets, seals) and other belts as needed? Is the garage section still the best place to get a step by step guide? Thank you!

For anyone who would like to fully defrost and preheat or dry their cabin better I have had good success with the following modification. See the attached image detailing the modification using the related WSM wiring page.

Fish a multi outlet extension cord into the trunk from below(ahead of the battery there is a plugged hole that is perfect); best done by chopping the cord and splicing after routing.

Install a 12v 20amp LED driver in the trunk(again ahead of the battery there is a good spot.

Run a power wire from the driver to the cabin fan behind the glove box. Following the factory wiring from the battery into the cabin then down the trans tunnel is a good route. Be sure to fuse the power wire at the LED driver(15amp ATC is good). Ground the LED driver ahead of the battery at the common ground point in the trunk.

Install a 5 terminal 20+amp rated relay behind the glove box near the cabin fan. A good location is outboard, beside the glove box when closed. A good ground for the relay coil can be found on the dash bar that runs above the glove box(an existing 12mm bolt is a good host for a ring terminal). Wire coil trigger and NO to the LED driver power wire. Wire NC as a male spade terminal and plug it into the ignition power wire that normally goes to the cabin fan. Wire relay common as female spade and plug it into the cabin fan power terminal.

With this modification done, the cabin fan will behave normally when the extension cord running to the trunk is not powered. When the car is plugged in, the LED driver will trigger the relay and power the cabin fan without involving the car battery. The cabin fan switch remains fully functional and will have to be set to some on position to actually run. This on it's own is great for drying out a Miata after hard rains.

With 120v power now in the trunk, the opportunity now exists to run space heaters in the cabin for winter preheat. For those with roll bars this can be done simply by mounting some small cube space heaters hanging from the roll bar. For those without, a more creative solution will have to be devised. I recommend 1000W of space heater; 500W is sufficient but does significantly lengthen defrost times once frost turns to snow. Space heater power cords can be routed into the trunk from the cabin for the winter months.

With 1000W of space heaters and the cabin fan modifications I've found that the cabin fully preheats and defrosts after about 30 minutes if the car is frozen or covered with ~1 inch of snow. I have an exterior outlet tied to an interior switch that allows for turning on the setup from inside in the morning before departing. I just have to remember to plug in the car and set the cabin fan before hand.

Uploaded a timelapse of a defrost cycle from last winter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqLUQNpbDMs

Notes
For cabin defrost set the cabin fan for interior air and the cold temperature setting. If set to the 'hot' temp setting, the cabin air will go through the FREEZING COLD heater core and will significantly hinder the preheat process.
For drying the car, set the cabin fan for exterior air. Quarter window vents are also recommended to accompany the modifications as they really are the only way to keep the car open while it's raining without inviting in more water(can't crack windows). Even without the quarter window vents, the cabin fan will push air out the soft top drains. Be sure that those drains are clean for best performance. The soft top drain holes can also be enlarged without much effort.
When reviewing the attached wiring diagram, feel free to ignore the "Cabin Fan Power Relay". I also ran a dedicated wire from the battery to the cabin fan to remove all the amp draw from the ignition key switch. If you never want to cook an ignition key switch or plug, do this modification as well.

Hey all,
My blind spot sensors are acting funky. I don't have any warning lights on the dash, the way some other drivers have noted, but the left side is practically toast and the right side seems to be functioning intermittently. I checked my battery and found 12.76 volts with the car off, which should be good. Any ideas? Hoping not to rip off the bumper and replace the expensive sensor.

With the battery, as a note, I will say that the car sat for just under 6 months with a battery tender on for only the last few months of that. Should be fine since voltage tested good, but let me know what you guys think.
