LS376/480 Miata! 415 RWHP/430 ft-lbs

Hey Guys,

Just finished the 99 LS conversion car with the 6.2L LS3 w/the hot cam. It's pretty insane! Here's the dyno graph vs. a stock 99. LOL What's really amazing is just how drivable this car is- super smooth and quiet. AC blows cold. Suspension & handling are awesome.

That torque curve has a certain resemblance...

Pffft...weak. Probably take a full half hour to plow an acre with that itty-bitty bit of pull.

Great work! I was trying to get my LS7 swap done before your event in August so I could drive down, but I think I'll miss it by a month. Maybe next year!

I tried to start the runs at 1500 RPM but the torque actually overloaded the dyno...

Nice, my 376/480 car is almost done as well. It is nice to see a dyno run with the same setup.

Looks great.

What's the weight difference between the stock engine/transmission and the LS3? Which trans BTW?

Did you weight the car before and after to see how the weight distribution turned out?

Got a close-up of the engine bay? Looks like a clean install!!!

my next miata will have a v8. about the same cost as a nice used c5 but smaller, lighter, and much more unique and a great sleeper factor... until it starts up...

Eddy current dyno?

Looks like this car would outdrag a stocker starting in 4th!

It's a Rototest dyno. I was pleased to see the RWHP numbers spot on 15% below the advertised flywheel HP from GM.
http://www.rototest.com/dynamometer/...N=29&Visitor=1

Bill & I spent the afternoon at the shop- the new owner picked up that car and is on his way home. Lucky guy!! I sent him a link to this thread so maybe he'll chime in later.

I don't recall if we weighed this one before and after, but the shop LS1 car (Elvis) picked up 180lbs (came in at just over 2500lbs) and went from 50/50 to 51/49 balance. Only major difference is this 99 has A/C. As far as handling, at lour local track Elvis is running 2 seconds faster than the fastest turbo Miata that's been around the track, and only about a second slower than Bill's turbo Westfield. At the local Corvette Club autocross, Elvis is beating the fastest Vettes by 3-4 seconds. I'd say the handling is spot on.

We're using the T56 6 speed & the CTS diff. Should have more pics up next week. We also just got a MSM with a Holden LS2 on the road, have to break it in before putting it through its paces.

Wow! Very nice.

What kind of rubber is Elvis running to get all that power to the ground?

The stories of Elvis are impressive; especially the maiden voygage at the Corvette club autocross.

Forgive my ignorance, but what radiator are you using on this LS3? What engine temps does it stabilize at?

We're using our aluminum race radiator. Temps seem to be running in the low 200s.

It took me a while scrolling down to find the stocker's Dyno!

I am also in the same psychotherapy and meditation to avoid making the call....

Ohhmmmmmm....

That car sounds so badass. I went to pick up my FM2 car a few weeks ago, and Jeremy started it up for me to hear.

As his quote goes, "When you get bored of your turbo, this is the way to go". If only I won the lottery....................

I scanned the dyno chart for those who can't open the Adobe file-

Also here's a pic of how we did the radiator setup. The FM sway bar *just* fits when we use the Comp sway bar brackets and bump them forward just a tad.

Having seen this car during its build, I can attest that it's a VERY clean install. John, FM's chief mechanic, is extremely meticulous (some may even say that he's anal).

Nice dyno Jeremy. I like that it actually has a bit of a torque "curve", which should make it more entertaining to drive on the street. I'm sure the owner will be more than thrilled with his car.

Glad to see dyno

I had been hoping to see a dyno of the hot cam engine. It looks like the cams put one over the 400 hp at the wheels threshold. Very important when bench racing.
I am getting one of these put in my '95 for 50th birthday this fall. Should have something for which to be very thankful at the end of Nov or beginning of Dec.

Thanks for the pics and chart Jeremy.

We can start a 285 Corridor support group. I *really* want one of these, but I'm not willing to sell the STi to fund the purchase.

Nice job, FM. That's a beautiful conversion.
